Hi r/Bitcoin. I’m Emiliano Pagnotta, Assistant Professor of Finance at Imperial College Business School. I just published a research paper on the fundamental value and the price of Bitcoin (see link). I’m holding an AMA on the topic here on Mon 16 April at 11am ET

r/Bitcoin recap – March 2018 (reddit.com)

Hi Bitcoiners! I’m back with the fifteenth monthly Bitcoin news recap. For those unfamiliar, each day I pick out the most popular/relevant/interesting stories in r/Bitcoin and save them. At the end of the month I release them in one batch, to give you a quick (but not necessarily the best) overview of what happened in bitcoin over the past month. And a lot has happened. It’s easy to forget with so much focus on the price. Take a moment and scroll through the list…

PSA: Lately there’s been a lot of “hate this/boycott that” company on r/bitcoin. The cultism and fanaticism mentality of “us against them” belongs on a different subreddit. Let’s keep it that way.

Hi /r/Bitcoin! I quit my job to start Cointaxes to answer questions about taxes and digital currencies so you can have confidence even if you’re not a HODLer! Sharing our first comprehensive article on the Coinbase & Gemini 1099-K. Would love your input on ANY other topics or questions! :)

Hi /r/Bitcoin! Thank you for reading this.

I felt the world of digital currencies is a bit too uncertain, so I want to do what I can to create more confidence and certainty! Please let me know if you have any questions or comments (I'll probably respond to every comment here!)

Check out our first comprehensive article on the Coinbase / Gemini 1099-K

Some "fun" facts you may not know about digital currency taxes

Here's two quick "fun" facts you may not know. We will be posting in-depth articles on these, too. Consider subscribing to our newsletter to hear first when they've been published!

  • Non-deductible personal loss: You should never exchange your digital currency directly for ANY goods or services. If you happen to have a loss on that trade, it will be non-deductable as capital gains losses ONLY apply to "investment" not "personal use" activity. You can read more about this on Forbes, Time and the IRS website.

  • FBAR requirements: This isn't explicitly tax related, actually, but a LOT of my US friends do not know about this important filing. If you ever on a single day, even, held $ 10,000 USD worth of value overseas (Binance, for example), you must meet your FBAR online filing requirements. The penalties can be severe for failure to disclose. The deadline is April 15, but it will be extended to October 15 if you fail to file on time. You can read more about this on official government sites General FBAR information, FBAR FAQS (not super helpful IMO) and the online form itself.

r/Bitcoin recap – January 2018

Hi Bitcoiners!

I’m back with the thirteenth monthly Bitcoin news recap. I must say it's becoming pretty hard to select just 1 or 2 stories per day, too much is going on!

For those unfamiliar, each day I pick out the most popular/relevant/interesting stories in r/Bitcoin and save them. At the end of the month I release them in one batch, to give you a quick (but not necessarily the best) overview of what happened in the Bitcoin space over the past month.

Thank you r/bitcoin

With today’s dip I have finally bought my way into owning my first 0.10 of bitcoin. While this may not be a significant amount to most people it is quite a bit for me at this time in my life.

Currently, I work a warehouse job making only $ 11.00 a hour. However, to confirm my money that I’ve injected into bitcoin has not been reckless. Actually, it’s quite the opposite as I’ve taken portions of my monthly budget that has typically gone to eating out and and started making all my meals at home. To add to this I’ve cut alcohol completely out of my diet. As a result the left over amount from this has gone into bitcoin.

Everyone has their own reason for getting into crypto, mine just happened to coincide with bettering my life with more healthy (and cost efficient) choices.

So, thanks for the memes, and motivation to override all the FUD that’s floating around. By proxy you guys (gals) have helped me get back to a physically happier place.

Good luck for everyone in 2018.

** Who would have thought on my 3 year reddit cake day I’d get my most upvoted post. Thank you guys for all the words of encouragement. You guys are awesome!!

2nd edit ** holy shit my first reddit gold! thank you kind stranger!!

3rd edit lol ** I just checked during a free moment at work. Wow this has blow up and another Reddit gold?! I’ll start replying when I get home. There’s a overwhelmingly amount of positive people 👌👍.

Dear /r/bitcoin, we should be ashamed of ourselves! Is this how we treat noobs? (reddit.com)

A few hours ago, a user made this thread asking if there is any difference between Bitcoin and Bitcoin Core. Obviously a victim of Roger Ver’s lovely little shit campaign. Here are some of the answers he got: You’ve been hanging around the wrong people. “Core” is a propaganda term used by Ver’s friends to stake their own claim on the bitcoin name. It’s just Bitcoin. The rest are imposters….
